BrandSnark: Good Week/Bad Week for the Big Brands

Best Week: Tesla Score another win for Elon Musk, as his personal Tesla roadster was launched into orbit on SpaceX’s Heavy Falcon rocket in a move of cross-promotional genius. Every bit as impressive as his Boring Co.’s $500 flamethrower, all 10,000 units of which sold out last week. #brandsizzle

Good Week: Home Delivery In more brand-sibling news, Amazon announced it will offer free Whole Foods delivery to Prime customers in Austin, Dallas, Cincinnati and Virginia Beach. Meanwhile at the other end of the nutrition spectrum, YUM Foods – parent of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell – announced it has purchased a stake in delivery service GrubHub.

Bad Week: Sears – Following the closing of nearly 100 stores earlier this month, the blood-letting continues as the erstwhile retail goliath laid off 220 workers, the lion’s share of which worked in its Illinois HQ.
